As Nigeria celebrated its 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1st, 2026, The Mary Nwamadi Foundation partnered with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS 9.4 Imo Sector Command to host a landmark event: the Federal Road Safety Independence Scholars Quiz 2026.

Held under the impactful theme, “Intensifying Road Safety Culture Among Children,” the one-day championship brought together brilliant young minds to foster lifelong road safety habits and empower the next generation of responsible citizens.

Catching Them Young for a Safer Tomorrow

Education serves as the bedrock of lasting societal change. By engaging school children in an intellectual showdown focused on road safety awareness, the initiative adopted the vital “Catch Them Young” principle—instilling safety tenets early to build a culture of caution, awareness, and care across our communities.

The event commenced at 10:25 AM at the FRSC Hall in Owerri, featuring selected schools from Owerri North, Owerri West, and Owerri Municipal.

Voices from the Event

Welcoming Remarks — FRSC Imo Sector Command

Welcoming guests and participants, the Sector Commander, CC Nimota O. Okoro (represented by the Deputy Corps Commander Operations, DCC Hamilton Odoyor), emphasized the collective responsibility of road safety. He enjoined all participants to imbibe a strong safety culture and join hands with the Corps in its ongoing mission to drastically reduce road traffic crashes across Nigeria.

Keynote Address — The Mary Nwamadi Foundation

Representing The Mary Nwamadi Foundation, Comrade Wilson Egbujor delivered an inspiring keynote message to the young scholars, reminding them that the competition extends far beyond winning trophies:

“The true prize lies in the knowledge that the students acquire and the safety culture that they will carry out to their schools, homes, and communities.”

Goodwill Message — Secondary Education Management Board (SEMB)

In her goodwill message, Mrs. Esogibe Ogechi Gift, representing SEMB Owerri, expressed deep appreciation to the FRSC Imo Command and organizers for initiating the competition. She highlighted how acquainting students with road safety tips creates a ripple effect, cascading critical life-saving knowledge down to peers, families, and the broader society.

Building a Safer Future Together

The Federal Road Safety Independence Scholars Quiz 2026 demonstrated that celebrating national freedom goes hand-in-hand with investing in the safety and future of our youth. The Mary Nwamadi Foundation remains committed to collaborating with key public partners to drive meaningful, community-focused impact.
